When I first got pregnant, (in fact I think it was when I was pregnant in January, before the miscarriage) one of the first things out of J’s mouth was, “You’re going to have a thing peeing and pooping inside of you!!” Of course he didn’t say peeing or pooping (he’s not that PC) he may have used some other choice words, but he was just trying to gross me out, which didn’t work. I did get a good laugh out of it though.
The banter between him and our midwife, Peggy, during the appointments and ultrasounds always cracks me up. At our appointment last month, at 16 weeks, we were looking at the baby on the ultrasound and J says, “Look, it’s trying to squeeze one out!!” and Peggy didn’t miss a beat, she came back with, “Yea watch, you’ll see bubbles come up on the screen in just a second!!” and we all started laughing. Of course when I laugh, my belly shakes and you can’t see the baby anymore, so I’m always telling them, “Stop making me laugh!!” Of course those of you who’ve been pregnant before know that there weren’t any bubbles, the two of them were just being smart asses. She said the baby actually doesn’t poo in the womb, which I think J was slightly disappointed about. 😉 It does start making poo, which doesn’t come out until after it’s born. When I found this graphic on BabyZone.com I just knew I had to share it with you guys.
How Far Along: 19 weeks
Size of baby: 6 inches, 8 1/2 ounces, the size of a mango (Mmmm, mango).
Total Weight Gain: 3 lbs, still holding strong, woo!!
Maternity Clothes: I’m still loving my maternity pants and tops, which now show off my growing belly more, but I cannot for the life of me seem to be able to find gray work pants. The few I have found on Motherhood.com haven’t fit right or are weird, scratchy material. If anyone knows where I can find some, send me the links!!
Gender: 1 week left!! Exactly one week from today we have our 20 week, gender ultrasound. I’m hoping, praying, and crossing my fingers that the peanut will cooperate and show is his/her goods. I can’t wait to find out if my instincts have been right or if I’m way off. It’s a 50/50 chance.
Movement: The peanut has been moving around like crazy and I absolutely love every minute of it. Sometimes it moves so quickly that it makes me jump, and then of course I can’t stop smiling. A few days ago it made me jump and then it tickled like crazy and I couldn’t stop giggling. I was trying to describe it to a friend of mine that’s never been pregnant before and I couldn’t think of any other way to best describe it than it feels like a fish swimming and wiggling around in there.
Sleep: I’m actually doing better than I thought I would about sleeping on my sides. I’ve always been such a belly sleeper that I thought I’d have a harder time with it, but I sleep to be sleeping through the night just fine. Although I don’t seem to be moving around as much in the middle of the night as I use to, I wake up stiff and sore from laying on one side too long.
What I miss: Not much, I’m actually feeling pretty good lately. Still a little tired, but I’m such a night owl, I do it to myself. I’m always tired during the morning and afternoon that I could easily take a nap. Then when 11:00pm rolls around, I’m suddenly wide awake.
Cravings: Today? The butterscotch Snack Pack I’m currently eating. Hey, I saw them in the store last night and they looked good. Take my word for it, they are! 🙂
Symptoms: I still have the heartburn, which is irritating, but it’s better than the nausea and vomiting I guess. I’m also getting the nagging hormone headaches, which I hate, BUT I have to say, now that the peanut is moving all over the place, it makes all of the crazy symptoms of the first trimester and even the second (nausea, vomiting, exhaustion, headaches, heartburn etc.) well worth it. I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world, if it means I get to hold my little peanut come December and feel him/her moving around like crazy in the mean time.
What I’m looking forward to: Our gender ultrasound, duh!! I’m so impatient and not good at waiting. I just want to know already!! I’m also really looking forward to driving to Anchorage for the day this Saturday. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t stand Anchorage, but getting to spend the entire day with my hubby is going to feel great. He’s been working 12-14 hour days, 6-7 days a week for the past few weeks, so we’ve hardly been able to see each other. We’re taking my 4Runner up to be serviced at the dealership, stopping by the taxidermy shop to finalize our order for a mount of my FIRST KENAI KING (more on that later), and I most definitely need to do some shopping, even though it’s not my favorite. Not to mention we’ll probably have lunch at one of our favorite chain restaurants, like we always do (we don’t have chains on the peninsula). I can’t wait!
